Or changed it daily? Today’s something positive had a character do one of those with a prison tatoo but I don’t know that much about them.

Your tattoo wouldn’t be able to breathe and heal right, making you more prone to infection. Also, it would fade and /or damage the tattoo, because the tattoo was not cared for properly and allowed to heal right. Bacteria would grow wickedly fast in a moist, hot environment like a bandage!

After you get tattooed you should leave the bandage on overnight (though schools of thought vary on this, some tattoo artists say 2-4 hours, some say overnight, I’ve even heard tattooists say TWENTY FOUR hours which seems insane to me) and after you remove it you shouldn’t bandage it again. It smothers the wound.
If you leave the bandage on for "weeks" you are going to end up with some gnarly, infected wound. I cannot even imagine how gross that would be. A professional tattoo artist will smear some ointment on a fresh tattoo before they bandage it. I have no idea what a prison tattoo "artist" would do though.
