Try Evolution or SHOEI helmets.

Or a motor plate, engraved with his name or birthday ?

if he's a real motorcycle nut then maybe a cleaning kit would be good as i know from experience with some of my freinds that they like to keep them shiny , looking like new. a leather motorcycle jacket is a great gift too.

Honestly all the required stuff is high-end in terms of gifts, the rest is typically shiny bits that add little to the ride. As an enthusiast though he might be interested in related stuff. Check out the website of a buddy of mine for some motorsports prints, some of which are motorcycle related:

In many areas with winter coming the riding season is ending, this is a good time for bikers to learn new things about riding in preparation for the next season. I have found that motorcycle related books make excellent gifts that last forever. For a suggested reading list visit http://www.smartmotorcycling.info. You won't find a more appreciated gift than a good book for the investment and one size fits all.

Can't help you on info in Japan. Affordable is not a great term in biking. Whats affordable to some is way out of price to others. Give us a price range to work with. A great store online is http://www.motosport.com. You can even buy gift certificates and send them so he can buy what he likes/needs. Gear is very personal. Most people are very loyal to one brand. Everthing is cut a little different so some gear fits while other gear feels like a straightjacket. That goes for boots, clothing and especially helmets. Have to agree with the guy who said a nice print or picture, but for gear, unless told what brand and size, go gift certificate.

Get him a DVD of the movie "On Any Sunday" it is a motorcycle documentary classic. "From Dust to Glory" is good also. Good helmets are expensive, personal & have to fit; don't go that route.
